  1. "Animals have been transported by air since the early 1930's. In today's modern world, carriage of live animals by air is considered the most humane and expedient method of transportation over long distances. IATA ensures that both safety and animal welfare are addressed in all regulatory issues pertaining to transportation of live animals by air."

"Domestic or pet cats less than three months of age can enter Canada for any period of time without vaccination, quarantine, or certification.

Domestic cats three months of age and older can be imported into Canada for any period of time without quarantine from any country; however, there are different requirements for cats entering from either rabies-free countries or from those countries that Canada does not consider to be free of rabies."

  2. As far as I'm aware no airline allows pets in the cabin flying out of the UK (expect guide dogs), most accept them as checked baggage or you can forward them as cargo.

  3. British Airways have a good reputation as animal carriers. They have strict guidelines and safety procedures.

I have used them for this and felt comfortable with the procedure.

Allow yourself plenty of time to get all the plans and details in place. It can take a while.

It's best you call the airline and ask how to proceed.

Your pet will be put in cargo where everything else it put. But they now keep the temperature at the same as inside the plane itself.

I don't know about quarantine regulations in Canada.

I suggest you look at the websites of defra.gov.uk and baworldcargo.com

  4. well, I am surprised to see that neither Air Canada nor British Airways allow pets in cabin.  Try Lufthansa for that.

difference between checked baggage & cargo?  as baggage, you check your pet in when you check in, the cage gets a baggage tag, and you pick up in baggage hall at other end.  As cargo, you deliver to cargo dept (probably in another part of airport), airline issues an air waybill, you (or whoever you consign the pet to) clear it thru customs and pick up from cargo dept at other end...again, probably a different part of airport from passenger terminal.

Baggage is less hassle and probably cheaper.

Airline personnel have pets too and I never saw one abused or mistreated.  Apart from anything else, would be grounds for instant firing.

  5. DON'T WORRY YOUR PET WILL NOT BE HARMED IN ANY WAY AND THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN CHECKED AND CARGO IS THAT CARGO IS USUALLY BIGGER, HEAVIER AND COSTS YOU MORE AND GOES TO A COMPLETELY DIFFERENT PART OF THE AIRPORT!
