Flys in our house :(?

we get so many flys in our house this time of year, there so annoying! i don't think there actually breeding in the house anywhere, i think they just come in when we let the dogs in and out, or sometimes when my boyfriend is working out in the garage he forgets to close the door that leads to the kitchen. there seems like theres always 10-20 buzzing around and we've tried those stupid fly strip things, put them in the areas where we see them the most and they didn't catch any, We have pets so i don't really like the idea of spraying chemicals around. Anyone have any other ideas on how to get rid of them? Walmart had some Venus flytrap plants last year, haven't seen any this year, but does anyone know if getting one would actually kill the flys in the house? are they hard to take care of? can they eat other kinds of bugs if we don't have anymore flys, like in the winter, what would they eat? thanks

  1. Your problem in in your yard, called dog poo. That's what brings the flies so by keeping the poo out of the yard gives nothing for them to feed on and they'll move on.

A Venus flytrap has got to be many years old before they begin the cycle of extracting nutrients from insects and the ones you buy are only babies which takes several more years to grow and then they may catch one to two insects a year... not very effective.

Keep unwanted food sources away from the home and the flies goes away.

  2. We have the same problem. We went to The Home Depot and got a venus Fly Trap they seem to have them there. They would like really eat anything. i would try oranges or apples. they seem to like fruits.  Or next time you see one you should whack it with a flyswatter you can buy one at like Target, Wal Mart, The Home Depot, or Fred Myers. I Hope That helped.

  3. flys only live in nasty places, get rid of the garbage, the filth, and try self closing doors, and keep your house clean and deorized

  4. You would need quite a few venus flytraps placed near windows, and at best they would only reduce the fly population.

Screens and keeping doors shut will do a lot toward reducing the fly count.   Also, put garbage cans and other fly-attractants as far from the door as practical.

  5. Get those machines where they have that blue light which attracts the flies to it, ZZZZAping them until they due. Cruel as it may be, its cost-effective
