Fm radio reception in a boat?

i installed a fm radio in an aluminum fishing boat. i mounted it in the side of the dry box ( also aluminum). i also installed the antenna on the same dry box. with the dry box lid open, my reception is great. when i shut the lid i lose all reception. what is the problem?

You're killing the signal when you close the lid.  Not all signals work in a tiny space.   Remember, some cell phones don't work in tunnels and in areas that have a dip.  Anything can block a signal.  I have satallite TV and when it rains heavy I lose all my TV signals because of the rain beating hard on my satallite dish.  With your radio signal, you need to leave the lid open unless there's a way to fit the ariel outside the box.

The aluminum box is sucking the signal away from the internal of the box, so your radio sees no reception.

Look up faraday cage.

get a rubber hose and stick the ant. coax thruogh it from the back of the radio to the inside of the dry box where you drilled the hole  see if that works

FM signals don't go through metal.  When you close the lid, the antenna no longer sees any signal! Can you attach the antenna input to an aerial OUTSIDE the box?
