if i have a 100w transmitter with a good antenna, what would be the range for that tranmitter?

  1. Depends on the frequency you're using, the the type of antenna, the height of the antenna above the ground, the conductivity of the ground, the condition of the ionospheric E layer, the sensitivity of the receiver ...

    In general, a 100-watt transmitter operating in the mid-VHF band with a vertical 1/2-wave dipole antenna about 15 meters above average ground could cover a circle with a radius of about thirty miles, but that's just an estimate based on local experience, not a scientific calculation.

  3. Umm.... Maybe 20-200 miles depending on antenna and conditions.

  4. What frequency?  How "good" is the antenna?

    I have gotten across North America on 50 watts before, but it depends.

    It also depends on whether you're talking about morse code (CW) or voice.  The higher frequencies travel more "line of sight" and thus won't go very far, except at night, when they bounce off the ionosphere.  

    There are too many factors to say for sure, but I would say "tens of miles", as a guess.
