after a foal has been succsesully weaned, can they be stabled?

or should they stay out with other horses? if so untill what age should they stay out until?

  1. They can be stabled and treated like a "big horse." They should be handled as much as possible to build up their trust in humans. You can even start on some very basic training. Since they are young though, make sure they do get plenty of turnout time. It's good for their development to have them moving around. We like to turn our babies out overnight and keep them in the barn during the day. This serves several purposes. They are inside under a fan during the heat of the day, and that is when all of the action is going on in the barn. They get used to the commotion and get lots of attention from all of the people.


  2. It will depend on the foal. We keep ours out with a babysitter gelding during the day. And if they have a foal that they are good buddies with we will bring them in the barn at night and put them in the same stall.

    They can stay out all the time. You don't have to stall them. The only time that we really keep a horse in a stall for the majority of the time is if they are being show, are sick, or are about to foal.
