  1. c or a but c to a larger extent. it's a qualitative method which generally (but not always) rules out causal.

    Focus groups can be a useful qualitative means of trying to find out the general opinion of an issue (perhaps to develop items in a survey), or to generate ideas (as in marketing a new product). Either way, the facilitator is exploring through gathering groups of people to gain new ideas - thus, it is exploratory.

  3. ost of the focus groups I hear of are in marketing so I'd have to say 'c'.
