Focus on Ottawa Senators playoff run: Daniel Alfredsson refuses to comment on NHL future-NHL News
Ottawa Senators’ captain and right wing, Daniel Alfredsson, has declined to comment anything about his future in the National Hockey League (NHL) but certain commentators believe it might be his last season in the league.
The player said to be focused more on the playoffs than giving any consideration to his future’s choice at the moment.
Still, he has not ruled out the possibility by categorically denying the question about his decision of calling it quits from the league, most probably at the end of current season.
Alfredsson returned to the side on Monday, April 23, 2012, for game 6 of the Eastern Conference playoff quarterfinal series after missing three games successively due to concussion.
It was unfortunate for him that the team went down against the New York Rangers in the last game, tying the seven-game series, 3-3.
The captain rued over missing a good opportunity to eliminate the opponents as their start to the game went well but they could not hold on to the advantage in the later period.
He said:
"We started out pretty good in the first period. We killed a lot of penalties, deserved a few of them, some we absolutely didn't, but that gets them the momentum to get back in it and we can't get possession and we can't generate much offensively. We had
some chances on the power play, but we didn't really do much."
He is confident of the team’s capability of triggering a collapse in the opposition ranks in the next game.
The captain has stressed upon the need for regrouping themselves once again for the do-or-die game.
If Senators are eliminated from the playoffs, it could also be the last game for Alfredsson if he decides to retire.
The fans apparently are not happy over the reports emerging around him calling it a day from the professional career and are hoping the reports to be wrong.
