Focus on Wild Coco, as 9 meet in DFS Park Hill Stakes at Doncaster
All eyes are glued on Wild Coco, as the Sir Henry Cecil-trained filly bids to follow up her Glorious Goodwood success in the Group 2 DFS Park Hill Stakes, to be hosted by Doncaster on Thursday, September 13th.
The 4-year-old is very much the one to beat following her superb Group 3 triumph last month. Owned by Gestut Rottgen, the skilful filly showed a few very good performances before being badly trounced twice at the end of last season.
After a gap of almost a year, she returned to action in the iShares Fillies' Stakes, and no one was expecting her to thrive. In the hands of Tom Queally, she raised many eyebrows by displaying a splendid show.
The 6-1 chance was domain right from the beginning, and took keen hold. Despite a lethargic effort in the midfield, she kept herself in the front row, and with the help of an exciting effort, she led a furlong before the wire.
No competitor could challenge her inside the final furlong and as a result, the filly notched up the top place by 2¾ lengths. After a marvellous win at Goodwood, her connections are hoping for more good results.
Jocelyn du Moubray, representing owner Gestut Rottgen, said: "This doesn't look any stronger than the race she won at Goodwood, and she had been off for a year then so there's every reason to expect improvement."
The Group 2 event has attracted a strong line-up of nine horses. As expected, many high profile runners have entered the race, as it carries a big cash prize worth £45,368. The plan is to start the affair at 14:55 GMT. After a dry night at Doncaster, the
going remains good, good to soft in places.
Even a repeat of the latest form may well be enough for Wild Coco to dominate, but she is expected to face a lot harder competition than Goodwood.
Estimate, who was third behind Wild Coco last time, looks to be the main danger, ahead of the progressive, Ambivalent. With so many big names in the crew, a thrilling event is on the cards.
