Focus will be on Koo Kien Keat- Tan Boon Heong besides Goh V Shem-Lim Khim Wah, says Tan Kim Her
Malaysia’s Tan Kim Her, the head coach of Men’s Doubles, said that in the current year, main focus will be on the top pair, Koo Kien Keat and Tan Boon Heong, in a bid to win a medal in Olympic Games.
However, the coach also expressed that the back-up pair of Goh V Shem and Lim Khim Wah will also be trained to provide consistent performance.
Kim Her wants the back-up duo perform well in the upcoming tournaments and break into top-16 positions in the Men’s Doubles world rankings before the end of current year.
The Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) is relying on Kien Keat and Boon Heong for a gold medal in the 2012 Olympic Games as no other shuttlers have the skills to take the challenge. The back-up pairs will help the top seeds in their training sessions
to win glory at the Olympic Games.
However, Kim Her did not want V Shem and Khim Wah to slow down as they need to establish their worth at international stage and replace the top seeds and World Number Six, Kien Keat and Boon Heong after their retirement from international badminton.
The coach wants V Shem and Khim Wah to achieve their full potential by working hard in training sessions and find elevation in the world rankings.
Kim Her also expressed that the BAM wants a gold medal in the Men’s Doubles category and for that purpose, the back-up shuttlers will help Kien Keat and Boon Heong in training sessions.
He said, "The main focus is to help Kien Keat-Boon Heong for the Olympics where we are looking forward to a medal and the back-up pairs have to help in their preparation. However, V Shem-Khim Wah must push harder and break into the top 16 as they have a
long-term future as a pair."
He further added, "Khim Wah needs to rectify his weaknesses. Currently, they can beat any pair in the world but can also lose to anyone but if Khim Wah can tighten up his game and reduce unforced errors, they can be very consistent.”
The qualifying round of Olympic Games is in progress and Kien Keat and Boon Heong need to get rid of their bad patch now as it is the right time to get back on the track for winning glory at Olympics.
