Fog delays PGA Championship for second day running
This week's PGA Championship ran into an "indefinite" delay this morning, as thick fog engulfed the Whistling Straits course in Kohler, Wisconsin for the second day in a row.
It was more than three hours before players were able to get on to the course yesterday, as the same poor weather conditions prevented play. By the time the day's action was halted due to poor light, some 78 players had still to complete their first rounds. Any sizeable delay this morning will likely result in the second round continuing into Saturday.
The resumption of the first round had been due to begin at 7am local time, with South African Ernie Els and Americans Matt Kuchar and Nick Watney all tied on four under par - the same score as clubhouse leaders Francesco Molinari and Bubba Watson, who did manage to finish their rounds.
Els and Kuchar had each played as far as the 14th yesterday, while Watney signed off with an eagle on the 11th on Thursday. Of the other big names yet to complete their opening rounds are such luminaries as Phil Mickelson, Rory McIlroy and Justin Rose - who face the prospect of trying to fit in another 18 holes today, once they manage to put their first rounds to bed.
