Folder showing up on my taskbar? Help me get rid of it?

I don't know much about computers, so please help me using easy instructions

On the bottom of my screen, there is a task bar..........well, I must have hit the wrong key or something yesterday, but there is a folder titled "public" showing up. It just looks like a manilla folder that is open and has "public" underneath. Also, now that this folder is there, the taskbar has widened and is now double the size it was before.

How do I get rid of this public folder and get my task bar back to normal?

right-click on your taskbar, go in the "Toolbars" context menu and uncheck on any checked toolbars  (appart from quick launch if you use it)

ps to uncheck a toolbar just click on it
