  1. You don't need a prescription to get folic acid, you can buy it at any pharmacy or health food store.  However, I always suggest to my patients to take a B complex supplement as opposed to single B vitamins as they all work together in a specific balance.  Typically folic acid is supplemented at about 400mcg/day to prevent spinal birth defects and is a good idea for all women of child-bearing age to take.

  2. You cannot buy Folic Acid without a prescription and they are usually prescribed to be taken in very low strengths.IE, 5mg tablet once every 5 days.

Also taking them without a prescription will cause Hypervitaminosis A or D to be borne in mind.

Last but not the least, the pharmacy which will sell You this vitamin will end up closing down !

    Good Luck !

  3. no need for a script, or a referral.  Its easily found in any good multi-vitamin, or by itself.  Go to your nearest health food store and ask the vitamin specialist to show you where it is.  OR..if you like the stuff (i know I do), get yourself a jar of Marmite...its an excellent source of folic acid.

  4. You can just buy it yourself. But ask a pharmacist for a good brand with enough folic acid.
