Foliicles on ovary????

Question

Hi i had a scan yesturday and im a bit confused the lady said everything looked fine but i have 6 foliicles on my ovary i have no idea what this means is it bad or good? someone please help me??

wow, are you on fertility meds? How many of them were big enough that the woman thought they would be ready for O?

It's normal and part of the process of reaching ovulation.  You're ovaries recruit many Antral follies to begin growing (usually on cycle day 3) and they all fight to become the leader/biggest one by fighting from fsh.

Around cycle day 8, the biggest one continues to enlarge and build concentrations of fsh and other hormones while the other remaining ones either die or grow at a very slow rate due to being fsh starved.  It's believed that the non-ovulating eggs builded up the estrogen levels.

Fertility medicines (used in IVF) produce more eggs because they place more fsh into the body so the eggs that would have dies are given a chance to mature.

The selection of eggs in any given month starts over a year prior.  The eggs become sensitive to signals around 4 months prior to ovulation.  That's why it's so important to take care of yourself months before trying to conceive.  It's amazing how the human ovaries work but also seems wasteful -- lose about 100 eggs a month.

That means that you have 6 developing egg follicles on your ovary. Only one usually matures and is released during ovulation.

And in the second source, it says its a mixture of eggs and cumulus cells that keeps the eggs in a state of suspended animation.

You will need a laporoscopy. Trust me I went through that already. Good Luck!!!!
