Folkestone to be inspected today
The frost-hit Folkestone horseracing track is set to undergo a keen inspection today so that its status for Tuesday’s seven-race card can be determined.
The course has been receiving severe snowfall coupled with frost since the last few days. Thus, the ground staff is not certain whether it will be available for action on February 14 or not.
The strong forecast is that the card will have to be abandoned as the temperature is likely to go down further by tonight.
Clerk of the track, Neil Mackenzie, also seems to be hopeless about tomorrow’s fixtures. However, he will unearth his final decision after an inspection.
While speaking to the media yesterday, Mackenzie said, “The temperature is due to remain above freezing through to Tuesday. There is a couple of inches of snow on the course as well as a few frozen areas.”
He further told, “At the moment it doesn't look particularly hopeful, but we'll give it a chance and have another look tomorrow to see if it's worth persisting with. I need to give the thaw a chance and we'll take it from there."
Folkestone is scheduled to host the following races on Tuesday:

1:30

Betfair Racing Excellence Conditional Jockeys´ Training Series Handicap Hurdle Cl5 2m1f110y

2:00

Claydon Horse Walkers Beginners´ Chase (for the Number Engaged Challenge Bowl) Cl5 2m5f

The ongoing severe wave of cold coupled with snowfall has badly disrupting the routine activities in Europe regarding horseracing.
Every day a number of scheduled races are abandoned in the UK due to the devastation the weather is bringing upon the race tracks.
Folkestone is one of the many courses to be the victim of low temperatures. With clerk and organisers of Tuesday’s card are keen to make possible all the seven contests, the final announcement is likely to come within a couple of hours.
