I am looking for a bike for a 3 to 4 mile one way trip to work. I will be hoping to save some cash on gas. In college I owned a Trek and very much loved that bike but it was stolen. There are two fairly large hills on the way to work and all down hill back home. Does anyone have any suggestions on a fairly low priced bike to get me started again? Thanks for any help

  1. I'd say (as I almost always do) that you should go to your local bike shop and ask if they have any used bikes on consignment.

Also, check around at lawn sales.  Those old Schwinn 12-speeds may not be bullets, but they're also cheap, and if the bike doesn't need too much love, it won't cost you much, and it will get you down the road until you can get something else.  And considering what you'd pay on a cheapo from a big box store, it's a bargain.

And your bike shop might have a new bike that's been sitting around the shop and they're wiling to give you a great discount just to get it out of the shop.

Good luck.  Have fun.  Glad you're getting back on the bike.

  2. just go to all the bike shops in your area and inquire about entry level bikes. I just bought a fuji for a steal. Also look at used bikes about a year old. There in good shape with little wear. Good luck
