Follow up question: Why is it a sin to be rich or successful?

Question

I thought it was the American Dream to own your own home and to be independently wealthy.

Please don't add more government and taxes ... I have 2 children already and don't need more people to support.

If you can't afford it ... don't get cable, if you can't afford it don't get the latest cellphone and unlimited texting, if you can't afford it don't go out to eat every day, if you can't afford it don't buy brand name clothes and shoes, if you can't afford it ...

** I am not rich nor independently wealthy; however, I budget, make sacrifices and don't spend beyond my means. **

ok I think it is a sin because "god" wants everyone to be equal... yet everything is expensive O.O food ect... wonder when being rich will stop being a sin... I don't think it being a sin will stop people since when you compare normal folks to poor... people in under developed countries... everyone is rich :)

in the 60s, these people were called "pigs", supposedly wallowing in thier materialistic achievments and not seeing the things in life that truly mattered. not that i agree with this. it's a deep rooted resentment between the classes. to the poor, the rich people are pigs, non appreciative and taking things for granted, and to the rich, the poor people are a nuisance. thus is the price we pay for living in a capitalist country.

God never says ( in his word), it is a Sin to be rich or successful

In fact he promises His Children that if we follow his word and commandments we Inherit both......( eventually ).......

I totally agree with your sentiments regarding "spending" for the h**l of it...( hmmz aint that the truth )........

The world bombards us with all kinds of brainwashing through the media ,advertising , peer pressure , etc etc......

It is hard to resist even basic things sometimes....but Wisdom is a great thing and probably the only tool that can help us all....

To Be Aware.........

The World says " You deserve all these pretty things"

"You have earned them "

You need them "

"Everyone else has them"

"You will feel better ,important , special ,somebody" with them

" Everyone will respect you more, Praise you ,"

"You will feel more Popular"....

God doesnt say we need anything except a humble and grateful heart to feel and know all of things above.....

So maybe the simple Truth Is found in Gods Word when He says in Isaiah...

" My ways are not your ways "  ( The Worlds Voice)

"My ways are higher"....            ( Different Values)

Personally I have done both , followed my own selfish wants and gone through the gimme's.......and ended up in debt!

Then I tried Gods way...omg!!!!......More of Himand Less Of me....has made me Sucessful and Rich now because Im not in debt.......

I wish you well ,not that you need it ,sounds like you already have it figured.!

I don't know where you got your information from because it is not a sin to be rich or successful it is sin when riches and success make us forget who we are and we are no longer godly people (at least that's what the Christian bible teaches- i may be a bit ignorant of other belief systems; perhaps more research would benefit the both of us).

It's all about balance and knowing that with or without material possessions we are still the same people.

First of all, it is not a sin to be rich or successful.

The only way it will be a sin if it has been achieved by illegal or unlawful means,

If God has forbidden anyway, to get money or be successful through by wrong doing then it will be a sin.

As you mentioned if you cannot afford it don’t get it.

Bill Gates is so dang rich

and he has 2 kids to but he doenst spoil them he treats them like any other kids....

also he donates so much money to aids funds hurricane charitys

etc

so he helps people to and hes not a show off ...........
