  1. if you base unit doesnt have a tuner card and if the LCD doesnt have a built in tuner you are fine, if it does they can argue that you can watch tv on it and therefore can be charged

  2. quote 'You need a TV Licence to use any television receiving equipment such as a TV set, digital box, DVD or video recorder, PC, laptop or mobile phone to watch or record television programmes as they're being shown on TV. '

if you dont use it to watch or record TV, then you dont need a licence.

  3. If you honestly do not use it as a TV to watch broadcast TV, you are technically exempt, but it would be difficult to convince them that you were not watching TV if the set's tuner were also tuned and working when they knock on your door. If you don't want to use it as a TV set, it would be better not to tune it and to make sure that it stayed mis-tuned. One assumes that you would be using it for games and DVD viewing since a magistrate might wonder why you would need a 32in monitor just for computing.

  4. Try using your argument when men in blue jackets turn up at your door - its capable of receiving TV signals - you are the weakest link Goodbye!

  5. yes...yes...yes  it is still a television receiver and so it is covered by the law....even if you use one as a goldfish bowl, you will still need a license
