Foo fighters! As good as, or better than Nirvana?

Ii thought Nirvana were excellent. I'm just really getting into the foos now.. I love some of their songs.. The pretender is my favourite.. :)

the foos are nothing like nirvana. but i bet you could name 20 great foos songs, and only about 5 or 6 by nirvana.

Nirvana was good, but as time grows and musicians do as well, Foo Fighters is better than Nirvana ever had the chance nor time to be. They might have been if Cobain didn't die.

Its very hard to compare the two due to their difference in sounds and also era. As cliche as it may sound Nirvana were the unheard voice of a youth who felt distant and neglected. Nirvana were also part of a movement which created music of which had never been heard before and sang about things that had never been sung about before.

  The Foo's don't have a 'new' sound as it were but they do what they do well and they refreshed what was becoming an almost stale 'rock' genre. The Foo Fighters are also one of the best live acts I have ever seen and wheather your a fan of them or not their a group which you should see live. I was never lucky enough to see Nirvana live but from the videos I've seen they looked good but not as good as the Foo Fighters. Though I think Nirvana were a more 'intense' live act to see.

  Personally I love both bands but Nirvana are part of my youth and were my first musical love so for me its Nirvana all the way.

i dont think that you can fairly compare them because the lyrics and the sound are so different.

i love both nirvana and the foo, but i think that the foo have such a cocktail of musical sounds that fits today whereas nirvana are the ultimate of grunge.

so,

the best lyrically- Nirvana, kurt cobain was so deep (especially in polly. that song is amazing)

the best sound- Foo Fighters.

that could just be because i've grown up with the foo fighters and started listening to Nirvana later, i dunno.

but theres my opinion.
