Question:

Food Additives & MSG?

I'm pi**ed off with eating out with my wife & kids, only to have a sleepless night because of all the additives (probaby) in the food.

No, I don't overdo the portion size, but my wife suffers the same - I reckon it could be MSG or other flavour enhancers in the food.

We've suffered after meals at TGIs, Smith & Western, numerous Chinese and Malasian restaurants, Pizza Hut and similar, but never any Indian restaurant. Pub grub seems mixed.

Does anyone have any info that seems to concur or dispel my theory of MSG added to the food, or even recommend restaurants between Southampton and Chichester that don't add such enhancers to their food?

  1. MSG is so bad for you. Alot of take-aways use this especially chinese and alike. The MSG is that gluey, sticky substance you get in fod - that on flavoured ribs, and sauces in food. MSG affects people in different ways, some people it can make them feel asif they have a bad hang-over, other people it makes them just feel like c**p. The suffering when eaten at these places are a almost 100% guarantee that your meals have contained alot of MSG. If you go to the country of origin of that paticular food, the food will taste totally different, and you won't have the side effects as they don't have the horrible additive that the restaurants use here.

Just so you know, chinese take-aways bug MSG by the sack full, usually 25Kg at a time, and will probably go through a few of these in a week!

  2. I have a horrible allergy to MSG.  It's a flavour enhancer found in a lot of chinese food (expecially sweet & sour).  You can ask in most places for it not to be added, but if the food is already prepared then there's nothing they can do.  All these restuarants you've mentioned are mostly fast food places, and they add MSG to a lot of their dishes (because it enhances the flavour).  I've been eating fresh healthy food since about christmas and i feel much better.  It's even found in crisps, salsa dips, pakora sauce and don't even go near a pot noodle!

  3. Try going to an Organic Restaurant.

  4. Not just MSG but food coloring is detromental to your health!
