Question:

Food Bank Donations?

I am wondering if anyone can tell me what items are usually needed by local Food Banks. Does it depend on the area? I am shopping for the items to donate before the Bank is open or I would call them and ask. Are there some things such as diapers, canned or boxed items, baby food, etc. that there is generally a need for?

  1. Mostly non perishable foods. Fresh food is probably appreciated but I would check and make sure they have room to store it before buying it. Any baby items would probably be very helpful, try to think healthy too. This is very nice of you, thanks.

  2. non perishable foods, cleaning products, fresh bread, and peanut butter

  3. Ours here usually asked for nonparishable items such as canned vegetables/fruits/soups, baby food, boxed cereals, oatmeal, other boxed foods, diapers, and they may possibly want things like soaps, personal care items (toothpaste, toothbrushes, combs, deo, etc).  You can't go wrong with canned good though.  Some except fresh and frozen items too but you would need to call on that.  So maybe take the canned items this time and ask when you are there for next time.  I know our foodbank will bag items at the local grocery store in $10 amounts and you can just pick up a bag or two when you go in and then pay for it when you check out and they put it in the purchased items.  They have already taken the guess work out of what they need so I usually just do that and don't pay much attention to whats in the bags.  Good for you for helping out!!!!!!!!
