Also I want to control any odor and are there bags I can put in it that will not harm the enviroment? We would empty weekly and put out with the lawn waste.

  1. until you find one why not use a plastic bag

  2. you can take a regular garbage pail that mounts to the door but line it with composting bags. They are green bags that can also be composted with the other stuff. You should look in the gardening section of a hardware store or ask at the local gardening center.

The best way to control odor is to empty regularly. Once a week may not be enough for household depending on your needs.

  3. I got a small aluminum bucket with a lid at World Market. It would be easy to mount onto the door. I also just took a look at www.amazon.com and typed in kitchen compost, there were many to choose from.

I've recently started a worm farm which I keep in my kitchen, I've had it for a couple weeks and have never had any odor. I used this link for instructions on how to build an inexpensive one. Very easy. It cost less than $8 to make and I spent about $20 on worms.

  4. Oh where i live its the law to have a composting bin.

They pick it up later like normal garbage. I'm not really sure what they do with it. But i live near Toronto ontario Canada.

There are plenty bags you can get, for i know that wal-mart has environmentaly friendly bags in stock. Like Glad, i am pretty sure i saw some of them.

If you live in Canada, Home depot always has environmentaly friendly things!

Any as for the bin, you can get any bin perferably one with a flap open lid because you don't want flies are anything mounting all over it.

Good luck, my answer might not have been the best but i hope i helped

PS: For the person that answered before me, its under my sink and i never notice it. Because the town supplied us with all we need for it. It was a pilot program in my city and i am almost positive they are expanding the program.

  5. Compost stinks really badly.  You don't want it under your sink.  Put it as far from your house as possible.  You can't use bags--air circulation is important.  Google 'composting' to find out what you need to know.
