I've never been on a cruise and i hear that in the dining room its formal, i rather not get dressed in a suit and tie, but if the food is that much better ill do it. Is it stuffy in the dining room? Is the food as good elsewhere on the ship. By the way I'm going on Royal Caribbean, Voyager of the Seas.

  1. its not stuffy its a nice atmosphere the foods great and well worth it but the food else where is also good everywhere but dressing up to go to dinner on the cruise ships is fun. i have not been on royal Caribbean but i go on princess like three times a year. it never gets old dressing up to go to dinner its part of the cruise experience at least do it once

  2. It is only formal a few nights ( only once on the five day cruise we went on). Otherwise you are free to wear whatever you want. There will also be a buffet area with a variety of food to choose from that is open 24 hours. The food in the dining room is much more gourmet and you can order as much as you would like. It is all you can eat. Unless you have a large group you are going with you more than likely will be sitting with people you don't know. Although this seems odd at first after the first two nights you warm up to each other and make friends. I just thought I would warn you about. it.

Have fun and bring hand sanitizer and Imodium with you. We were unfortunate enough to get the norovirus. Not sure how exactly but it wasn't a pleasant experience.

  3. In August I went on my first cruise.  It was on Carnival's Ecstasy and it was great.  We were having so much fun and so busy enjoying the water, we just ate the buffet.  There is food available 24/7 on the boat.  We finally went to the last dinner on the boat.  We were seated with some interesting people and had a nice dinner, but I'm not all that fancy.  I was a little uncomfortable there.  The food though was excellent.  I would recommend trying it early on that way you can say you tried it, but if you don't want to go back you don't have to.

  4. Yes its rather dressy.  Depends on how long a cruise you are taking but a 7 day has 2 formal nights.  Both will be a nice suit.  Many women will be in formal prom dresses or semi-formal cocktail dresses.  The other nights are more casual.  Khakis and polo shirt or khakis and button up shirt will be the norm.

You don't have to eat in the dining hall on those 2 nights but really that is part of the enjoyment of the cruise.  I love the dining room and I love to meet and bond with people at my table.  There is many other options though but it is debatible if the food is "that much better".  I think the food is fabulous all over the ship.

  5. On a seven night cruise, you will have 2 formal nights. Formal nights do not require a tux, but do ask for a tie & jacket. All other nights are casual. Shorts are not allowed, but jeans can be worn. Some cruisers will say you shouldn't wear jeans in the dining room, but no one will say a word and there will be others wearing jeans. You will not be out of place.

The atmosphere is never stuffy on Royal. The dining room can turn into a HUGE party on some nights. There are nights when all the chefs come out and parade around the dining room to fun music. Other nights the wait staff sing and dance. They also parade around the dining room and people scream and holler and applaud their wait staff as they pass by their tables. It is very fun and the staff always makes you feel so incredibly welcome.

The food is incredible and they will not stop serving you until you've had enough. If you want three desserts, they will be more than happy to bring you three desserts. If you want two lobster tails, just ask. They are there to make sure you're happy. They post the daily menu outside the dining room every morning. You are in no way obligated to eat in the dining room. You can always eat in the Windjammer (buffet) or even order room service (which is complimentary!). A lot of the items on the dining room menu will be available for room service.

Voyager is a great ship. I've been on her sister, Navigator. They are both in the same class and they are amazing. The dining room is three stories. Go ahead of dinnner and check out your table assignment. If you're not happy with the table, just ask for a different one. They'll be more than happy to change it.

Be sure not to miss all the festivities in the Royal Promenade. There are Mardi Gras parades and all kinds of parties there. It is tons of fun.

The Voyager class ships of Royal Caribbean offer two restaurant named "Chops" and "Portofino". This is the only place onboard you will have to pay an additional charge for a meal, but take my word that you will not regret it. The food is absolutely amazing. The best dining on the high seas.  Chops is a steakhouse and the steaks were out of this world. By far the BEST steaks I've ever had. The filet was nearly the diameter of a dessert plate and easily 2 inches thick. Perfectly cooked too. Portofino is an Italian place and is just as great. Don't miss the risotto!

Whatever you do, just have fun. Once you cruise, I'm sure you'll not want to travel any other way. My husband and I are conviced it is the only way to travel! Have fun!!!

  6. There are formals but if you do not want to get dressed up there are many other delicious places to eat.

The experience in the dining room is worth it.

If not consider the 24 hour room service.

They have many places to eat.

The windjammer cafe has all the food you need and then some in a buffet style.

We are going in May again on Splendour of the Seas.

    Have fun!

  7. Omg!! do not go on that ship!!! i went on it a couple of months ago, and me and a couple of hundred other ppl all got the norovirus from it!!! whatever you do DON'T SAIL ON ROYAL CARIBBEAN!!!

  8. only a couple of formal nights and yes its worth it one night at least . the food on royal caribbean ship i was on was awesome very nice the windjammer is good its all good 24/7 room service no fee its an amazing vacation the best fun i ever had . good luck and enjoy your cruise.

  10. You do not have to be dressy.  They say that you aren't suppose to wear jeans and stuff like that in there but you can. They only ask that you dress for formal night. You can wear jeans or khakis any other night with a pull over or a tucked in shirt.  You  do not have to dress to the nines. Everyone wears jeans to the dining room.
