Recently my wife and I visited Cancun, Mexico for our honeymoon. They had a dip for the tortilla chips that was onions chopped up with a purple type vegetable. The dip was very spicy. I wanted to find out if anyone knows what the purple vegetable normally used is and what makes it spicy.

Thanks in advanced!
