Alright So i am 24 weeks and 6 days preggo. I need to get some info on how to apply for food stamps and WIC. I know that you do it through the Department of Children and Family Services, but other than that I am clueless. Anything that you guys could tell me would be helpful. I live in Jacksonville, Fl. so anything that you guys could tell me like if there is a paper application or something I don't have to do over the internet would be very much appreciated.

  1. For WIC, you can go to the local health department.  They see pregnant women only on certain days and they only take a certain number of them, so I would call first and find out what day and what time they open.  Take with you a utility bill for proof of address, your driver's license and social security card, and your paystubs.  If anyone else lives in the house with you, you need to take their's too.  With WIC, you will know that day, before you leave, whether or not you're approved.

As far as food stamps go, I would call the health department and ask about where you have to file for those.  Here they are in a completely different place.  For that, you will need paystubs, social security cards of everyone in the household, proof of income for the past month for everyone in the household, driver's licenses of everyone in the household, and a utility bill showing proof of residence.  Once you fill out the application, you may receive a phone call or letter, which will give you info on the interview process that you have to do.

    Hope this helps!

Also if you need medical you can get that at the food stamp office.  And if you need additional help such as diapers, formula, food, clothes, baby items, utility/rental help, etc call 2-1-1 from a land line.

Also you can find free or cheap baby items on craigslist.com or freecycle as well.

also register with the formula companies for formula samples and formula checks.  When you sign up say you are not on WIC and you are undecided if you will breastfeed or formula feed.  If you will be breastfeeding I would still suggest getting them in case you have problems or you have a sitter and run out of milk.  WIC does not give enough formula.  Just DO NOT give it until you are done breastfeeding or you have a real emergency because half and half doesn't work.  If you never use it you can give it to someone else who needs it.

  3. you need to go to the local offices and fill out all paperwork thouroughly and they will send letter for you to come in for interview and let you know if you qualify or not
