  1. Had no experience of this medicine but orange colouring is well known for causing hyeractivity in children. Ask for medicine without colouring. Another thought your son's infections could be caused by an allergy to daity products.

  2. wowzers, what a dilemma, and only a few days before Christmas!

I'm not sure what to advise, give him medication he go hyper, no medication he'll be in pain - its a tough time.

Maybe go to a local health shop and see if they have any herbal alternatives they could recommend. They often work the same way but without the additives.

Or go back to your GP and explain the medication is causing problems, potentially health and safety for other members of the family and is there an alternative he can take?

occasionally doctors can prescribe adult medication with child proportions because typically adult medication is hypoallergenic and doesn't contain any additives. I hope this helps.

P.S local in your local phone book and have a look for an autistic Charity, they usually have 24hr helplines you can call for advice - answered by a professional. Be more reliable than me lol

    Merry christmas

  3. My daughter suffers recurring chest infections and is autistic. She has had bad reactions to several antibiotics, especially the bright coloured syrups doctors tend to prescribe. I would try to go back to your doctor as soon as possible and get it changed. Either get a different antibiotic with no flavourings or colourings in or get him to change it to a generic antibiotic. Christmas is a bad time for autistic kids without having the added hyperactivity to make everything worse. Go to your GP first thing in the morning, good luck. Merry Christmas.

  4. I think you should consult your child's physician about this concern and see what he thinks.  After all, he did prescribe the medicine and you are most familiar with your child's behaviors through out the course of the day.  I think you two should be able to come up with a reasonable solution to this problem.  It could even be a side affect of this medicine.  I'm not a doctor so I don't feel I have adequate resources to say that it is. There may even be another form of medicine that your child can take instead.

  5. My little girl had the same medicine a fortnight ago and is ASD, I had to stop it cos it was a nightmare - no side effects!!

  6. My daughter has autism and cannot have anything with corn syrup in it (most liquid medications have a cornbase to it) It makes her hyper, she regresses, loses language, etc.

We have to use pills, if you can get a prescription for those, you can grind them up and put them on a spoon of peanut butter or in some honey, whatever he likes.

Good luck. My daughter was prone to ear infections (actually still is, but went from six or seven a year to maybe three or four) We've worked hard to boost her immune system, tried some of the diets, but dairy and corn are the only two that she reacts to.
