Food in Italy?

I have to do a Food Technology Assignment on Cultural Identity. I've picked Italy as my country. I need to know:

- Staple Foods

- Food Production (e.g. livestock, food grown, processing, marketing)

- Daily meal pattern (breakfast, lunch, dinner)

- Who and How foods are prepared

- One cultural festival or celebration

- Food served at that celebration

  1. Aren't you supposed to be doing your own research for your homework? Anyhows.. I'll help you with what i can. I'm staying in Italy for about two years now with a traditional italian family.. So I know a bit..

    -Staple food: bread rolls, cheese, pasta, meat(includes ham, sausages, steak and salami), salad, pizza, fruits

    - Food production: (most that other countries have?)

    - Daily meal pattern

    *Breakfast: Varies. Usually warm milk or coffee and cereal or cookies. (nothing elaborate)

    *Lunch: Broken down into three courses.

    First course: pasta, ravioli or rice

    Second course: Meat, seafood or cheese or salami or ham with bread roll

    Third course: Fruits and or dessert.

    *Dinner: Broken down into three courses as well

    First course: Soup(vege soup, ravioli soup, macaroni soup)

    Second course: Cheese or salami or ham with bread roll

    Third course: Fruits and or dessert

    - Who and How foods are prepared: I donnoe.. the mom prepares the food? They use alot of rosemary, butter, wine and vinegar in their cooking.

    - One cultural festival or celebration: Santa Lucia



    - Basically, the usual food. But since Santa Lucia is during the winter season, there are bunnies available to eat. The usual three courses. Theres usually food fair in the town square when its santa lucia, so all kinds of candies and pastries are available.So theres more desserts are served.

  2. Wow, a book wouldn't be enough to answer all these questions!  

    The typical meal pattern is a light breakfast, a two courses lunch, and a lighter dinner but often nowadays the family gathers only at dinner which becomes the main meal.
