  1. I have not been on the Sovereign but I have been on many Royal Caribbean cruises and I can tell you that the food is great. The dinner menu is different every night, even on a 12 to 14 day cruise. It usually includes entre selections of beef, pork, chicken, fish and shrimp, and pasta as the main course, plus several hot and cold appetizers and soups.

Every cruise that I have been on they always have one night when they serve lobster tails (usually on a formal night) and a night when they serve file mignon. Some ships that may have a night when they prepare fresh pasta in the dining room and serve it from a special table. There is usually a chef's salad selection for the evening.

The one thing that I like about the RC menu is if you don't want the specials of the day you can always order from the alternative menu that is available every day. It has sirloin steak, baked salmon, and grilled chicken on it. And you can always order a baked potato and/or a Caesar salad.

After your regular meal they will give you a desert menu which will usually include some specialty deserts, or you can always order ice cream, or cheese cake. The desert menu will usually include baked Alaska one night (usually a formal night) and hot cherries jubilee another night.

On the breakfast menu they will have just about anything you could want from pancakes to fresh made to order omelette's. Lunches have about anything you could want, soups, sandwiches, hot entres, pizza, burgers and fries, etc.  There is always some place on ship where you can get something to eat, even late at night you can get sandwiches and pizza.  You know there is free room service 24/7, just pick up the phone and order.

  2. I got off the Explorer of the Seas in april of this year and they have many different foods that you can choose from at dinner. I only went to the main dining room- never portofino's(the specialty dining), and I always found something that I liked. I'm the pickiest eater ever and I always found something.  Every night, there's a steak, salad, soup, & some kind of a chicken that you can get. There are certain specials that they normally have twice throughour your cruise (certain steaks, pastas, soups, things like that). The formal or "captain's dinner" will have lobster, and since you're only going on a 5 day cruise you will only have one formal night which means one dinner of lobster. If you would like to get lobster another night, there is one other night as well as the formal that you can get lobster at Portofino's($20 per person age 13 & up only).

Hope this helps & have fun!! (:

  3. They usually have steak, chicken, salmon and yes, they actually do have lobster. The food is pretty good in the main dining, but I preferred the Windjammer Cafe buffet. There was a carving station for different types of meat every day and night and a man that would stir fry your choice of meat and veggies for you...And the desserts were awesome!!

I went to both Portofino's ($20)  and Chop's Grille ($25), which were both great. I highly recommend a night there. The food is great, and you can pick how many appetizers and sides that you want. They are both 4-course meals, and the service is excellent. Where can you get a meal like that for $20 or $25?

But the food is amazing as is the ship. Have fun in the Bahamas!
