Question:

Food question, bear with me....

I am marinating a boneless, skinless chicken breast in lemon juice, oregano, and minced onions, green and red pepper. It is in the refrigerator. I will cook it for dinner tonight. My question is... Do the peppers and onion get discarded or do they get cooked with the chicken? Is it safe to eat them after they have spent hours marinating next to the raw chicken even if they are cooked?

Please help me. I'm clueless when it comes to this stuff.

  1. No do not cook the veggies. They are swimming in chicken nasties. Next time save a little marinade out and marinate the peppers seperatly but in the same marindae. For now discard the peppers and use new ones.

  2. As long as they are thoroughly cooked and the marinating liquid is boiled, it will be perfectly safe to eat. If you're cooking it alongside the chicken, it will reach the same temperature. You have nothing to worry about.

  3. I normally cook the marinated vegetables with the chicken -- whether it's baking, grilling or frying in a pan and have never had a problem.  Just make sure they are thoroughly cooked.

    Good Luck!

  4. As long as the peppers / marinade are cooked to the same temp or boiling- like the chicken then they will be fine to eat- as long as they are to that temperature all of the bacteria etc will be killed =)

    Your dinner sounds yummy!

  5. I would put them in a foil packet and bake them all together.  Or I would pour it all in one of those foil pans and grill it outside.  Make some fajitas.

As long as you properly cook everything it should be fine.
