Question

Besides "American as Apple pie", what foods/dishes do others around the world associate with Americans the most?

What foods are distinctly American from your perspective?

Hot dogs, burgers, bbq ribs, grilled steak, pot roast, fried chicken.  Those are the ones that come to mind right off the bat.

The obvious answer is: Hamburger, Hot-dog, BBQ, and Southern fried chicken.

My list will start with Thanksgiving holiday, go through state fair and include Amish foods developed in mid-west.

1. Turkey. Turkey is only found in America. Stuffed turkey always takes the center stage on holidays

2. Corn was found in abundance in United States at the time of its discovery. Cream of corn, corn bread, corn on the cob

3. Pumpkin. American pumpkin is unique. Pumpkin in other countries is more like Butternut squash. Pumpkin pie

4. Tomatoes, Potatoes, Red Chili were all discovered in Americas (North and South)

5. First commercial Ice cream was made in United States

6. Iced tea was introduced during one of the state fairs, I think it was in St. Louis

7. Chicken Chow mien was a creation of a Chinese restaurant in America.

8. An unemployed engineer created the fortune cookie when working at his dad's Chinese restaurant in Los Angles

9. The #1 soft drink world wide is Coca Cola from United States followed by Pepsi

10. Root beer floats, Coke floats

11. Milk shakes

12. Banana Splits

13. Cotton candy

14. Taffey

15. Elephant ears

16. New England Clam Chowder

17. Apple cider

18. Apple butter

19. Shoefly pie
