Food stamps- what is covered and what isn't?

I need to know for a project. is there a website with a list?

Your first responder is in error as you can buy just about any thing except Alcohol and tobacco product's. In general most things classified as food or snack,but i maybe wrong on this but i do not believe paper products are allowed.And try typing in some thing like this for online search Foodstamps.GOV...

Any kind of uncooked food or food that does not need to be cooked, such as what you would buy at a grocery store, is covered.  Food stamps will not buy alcohol, non-food items, and already cooked foods such as things you would buy at a deli.  However, you can buy frozen "take and bake" fast food with it, from stores such as "Papa Murphy's".

Households CAN use food stamp benefits to buy:

   Foods for the household to eat, such as:

   -- breads and cereals

-- fruits and vegetables

-- meats, fish and poultry; and

-- dairy products

   Seeds and plants which produce food for the household to eat.

Households CANNOT use food stamp benefits to buy:



   Beer, wine, liquor, cigarettes or tobacco

   Any nonfood items, such as:

   -- pet foods;

-- soaps, paper products; and

-- household supplies.

   Vitamins and medicines.

   Food that will be eaten in the store.

   Hot foods

In some areas, restaurants can be authorized to accept food stamp benefits from qualified homeless, elderly, or disabled people in exchange for low-cost meals. Food stamp benefits cannot be exchanged for cash.

check with your dhs office, they can give you an idea, but you can buy pretty much anything that is edible other than "hot" deli, or energy foods (because they aren't recognized as nutrition for people).

Basic food items like meat, cheese, milk, anything that you can make a meal out of.  Usually pop, candy, snack foods are not covered by food stamps.
