Question:

Food store exploring in San Diego?

I'm a native San Diegan living near Paradise Valley Road and I just recently got my license several months ago. I like food and I want to discover all the great places to eat in San Diego and further. I'm looking more towards the less pricey food stores, stores hidden here you know? I've eaten at the tourist spot places like Seaport, Coronado, Old Town but I want more! Can you recommend some nice food stores? I'm kinda restricted to the limits of Carlsbad due to my unability to keep track of time but still, I can check them out! So please recommend me some great places to eat in San Diego! I'm not a real San Diegan till I know the food.

  1. A couple of good places to sample the San Diego food lifestyle would be:

Roppongi in La Jolla. Great topas's

    Bread N C in Hillcrest

    Bon Appeitte

  2. Mitsuwa is a really nice Japanese market.

  3. If you're looking for stores that have interesting food I would try Asian Markets (there are good ones in Mira Mesa and Kearney Mesa), Whole Foods, Henry's, Jimbo's and Sprouts. The last 4 I listed are health food stores but you can find some pretty interesting stuff like vegan/tofu kielbasa, these really good Italian pasta dumplings called Gnocchi, or frozen cheeseless pizza that has mushrooms, peppers, and a good barbecue/tomato sauce instead. There's always fresh fruits and sometimes things you may have never heard of like lychee fruits, dwarf bananas, and acai berries. Hope this helps!

  4. Try Miguels in Shelter Island, its pretty much amazing.
