Food suggestions for a Hawaiian "Luau" themed party?

We are throwing a Hawaiian "Luau" themed graduation party for a friend. We need some good ideas for food to make. Think easy-medium difficulty, relatively affordable food prices. Any good ideas?

  3. PINEAPPLE DESSERT  

    1 box yellow cake mix

    1 lg. can crushed pineapple, drained

    1 c. pecans

    2 stick butter

    Grease bottom and sides of 9x13 inch pan. Spread drained pineapple on bottom, then sprinkle with 1/2 package cake mix and a layer of pecans. Sprinkle remaining cake mix on top. Dab with butter and bake at 300 degrees until done (1-2 hours). Cool and cut into squares.

    FRUIT SALAD  

    1 can pineapple (crushed or tidbits) drained, reserve juice

    1 can fruit cocktail, drained, reserve juice

    2 cans mandarin oranges

    1 pkg. lemon instant pudding

    1/2 c. sliced almonds

    Combine fruit and almonds. Mix 2/3 cup of reserved juice with pudding. Combine with fruit. Chill. Variations: add 1 cup colored miniature marshmallows

    HAM CASSEROLE  

    1 (7 oz.) pkg. elbow macaroni

    1 (10 3/4 oz.) can cream of mushroom soup

    2/3 c. milk

    1 c. shredded Cheddar cheese

    1/2 tsp. celery salt

    1 tsp. Worcestershire sauce

    1 can Hormel tender chunk ham, flaked apart with fork

    Cook macaroni. heat together soup, milk, Cheddar cheese, celery salt and Worcestershire sauce. Add flaked ham, then add mixture to macaroni. Pour into greased 2 quart baking dish. Bake at 350 degrees for about 45 minutes.

    1 fresh pineapple, peeled, cored, cut into 1/2" slices

    1/2 cup brown sugar

    1 Tbsp. lime juice

    1 Tbsp. lemon juice (or use all lime or all lemon juice)

    2 Tbsp. honey

    1/4 tsp. cinnamon

    Prepare and preheat grill. Combine brown sugar, juices, honey, and cinnamon in a small bowl until smooth. Spread this mixture on each side of each pineapple ring.

    Grill pineapple 4-5" from medium coals for 5-10 minutes, turning once, until sugar mixture melts and pineapple is heated and tender, brushing with any remaining brown sugar mixture.

    -grilled ginger and soy chicken with grilled pineapple

    -spam (very Hawai'ian)

    -Maui onion potato chips (they sell the Hawai'ian Brand chips all over the place)

    -use empty pinapples (after cutting out the fruit) for decoration. The tops can be candleholders and/or you can cut the bodies lengthwise to serve rice or fruit salad

    -dessert with macadamia nuts and/or coconut

  7. A hawaiian ham . Use a can of pineapple rings and a whole ham. Use the juice from the can to cook the ham in, slit the ham on top in a diamond pattern. Cook at around 400 for 45-60 minutes or until the top is crunchy. Brush the ham with pineapple juice every 10-15 minutes.

  8. Pineapple's with the middlle cut out then use for a bowl for fresh punch watermelon sliced in half then take at the middle using ab fruit baller then place back in the balls with a nother melon like red and green for colour

    For dessert try something in a bright colour like blue lagoon jelly or lime jellys

  9. Our family loves fresh pineapple slices grilled with pesto sauce. (You can use them as hors d'ovours (sp?) appetizers. Served it at my New Year's and it was one of the first things to disappear!)

    We also like Wai'a mea Bay Sweet Potatoes as a side dish.

    2 cans sweet potatoes (mashed)

    1 c. brown sugar

    1 stick butter

    tbsp. vanilla

    1/2 c.shredded, sweetened coconut

    Melt butter and sugar in a sauce pan. Add to mashed potatoes, 1/4 c. coconut and vanilla & mix well. Place in greased casserole dish and bake at 350 for 25 min. Add the rest of the coconut over top and bake and additional 5-7 min. or until toasted. Makes 8 servings.
