Hi--I belong to a meetup group for foodies and home cooks to trade recipes and will be hosting the next one at my house. It will be my first time hosting this and I need to pick a theme. Some recipe I've thought of that the club hasn't done are:

tropical islands

India

South America (not Mexico)

Southeast Asia

China

Which do you think is a good idea, or do you have another you'd like to share?

It's my responsibility to provide mood music and some cheap decorations, so I'd appreciate any tips.

Thank you :)

  1. India would be awesome! Get lots of oversized pillows and do floor seating, dim lights, maybe one of your friends feels frisky enough to do some belly dancing!

  2. Tropical Islands would be easy,go with a luau setting.Fruit kabobs and fish is easy. The decoration would be big flowers and globes.hope this helps....

  3. i personally reccommend china.food will not be a problem because there are chinese restaurant takeaways readily available, and if you want, the guests can seek help from chinese whom they know to help them prepare a chinese dish! furthermore, most chinese food are easy to prepare and suits almost everybody well.

as for decorations, go to the art and craft store and buy chinese lanterns, red and yellow crepe paper, and red and yellow disposable tablecloths. if not, it can be easily found in chinatown, where it is plentiful and cheap. you can also try buying those cloths used for making cheongsam and use them everywhere; chairs, sofa, tables.

be careful not to make the place look too red though. if not it'll look like a red-light district. use about 60% red, and for the remaining 40%, throw in colours such as yellow, purple, green and blue. good luck! (:
