Foodborne botulism question?

i read an article on botulism on emedicine.com and it mentioned that the pulse is frequently normal or slow in the absence of hypotension. . do you know the reason that the pulse is normal or slow in this situation? i just looked it up at http://www.emedicine.com/emerg/topic64.htm.

  1. I think that the author was really saying that botulism does not cause an increase in pulse rate.  The toxin is specific for cholinergic neurons that include mainly skeletal, not cardiac, muscle
