what kind of foods will keep your brain functioning throughout the whole day? also is there any foods that excercises your brain?

  1. start with organic. . organic, not "natural". There is a difference. Organic food allows the earth to breathe after harvest thus allowing nutrients to get back into the soil. Also there are no pesticides or herbicides. . as these  cause cancer. Anything packaged in a box, bottle, carton has chemicals in them. We are exposed to 200-300+ chemicals every day. It is impossible to avoid them all. . unless you live in the wild eh? But to consume fruits, vegatable, meat and fish from organic farms only-what you eat at home, it a huge start .Also personal care products; creams, lotions, shampoo, deoderant that you get at a Henry's or Mother's Market is best. No man made chemicals. The less man made chemcials on your brain and no pharmaceuticals (including over the counter), the better for your brain and body. Look up the 92 minerals your body needs everyday. Check out "Dead Doctors Don't Lie"(tape& book), Exposed (book-2007) by Michael Schappiro and The Secret History of the War on Cancer by Devra Davis (book-2007). Google  "aspartame and cross reference  it with Donald Rumsfeld. . yes him. If  your pH is 7.4 no disease will occur-so do that simple test -see a chiropractor or nutritionist. Also find out what chemicals are still in your body/blood/tissue/organs. If your cells are fully oxygenated, not disease will or can occur. Even cancer can be cured . .without drug, chemo and surgery.

Brain tissue is not muscle tissue, so "exercising your brain" in the typical sense isn't really possible, altho' there are multiple studies that show exercising your body is of great help with mental functioning.  Doing things like crossword puzzles, traveling, reading, Sudoku and other logic puzzles, listening to music and constantly putting yourself into new situations are all good ways to increase your brain power.  Even trying a new recipe is a good thing.  Anything that gets you off the sofa and out from in front of the computer (Uh-oh...)

    As far as foods are concerned:  Fish, eggs, cauliflower, and in fact all fruits and veggies b/c they're so high in antioxidants; anything high in B Vitamins, especially lysine and phosphatidyl choline; and I say chocolate chip cookies b/c they make me happy.

  3. Fish is said to be brain food because we have found unusually high amounts of DHA (an omega 3 fatty acids) in our brains.

    The brain is comprised largely of fats, mostly polunsaturated DHA. We do not know why there is so much DHA in the brain. But, as there is so much DHA we think is is deliberate. Usually our cells are just composed of whatever fats we eat. But to have such a high amount of DHA in the brain it must be deliberate and there must be a reason. But we dont know why.

    Thats why there is DHA in baby food for "brain development". And DHA is being investigated for links with anything neural, intelligence, memory, depression are some examples. But so far its not really clear if consuming it does anything at all.

    Nothing you eat is really proven to help brain function or exercise it.

  4. Brain foods include:

    1.) oily fish high in Omega 3 such as sardines, salmon, tuna, mackrel.

    2.) Flaxseeds or even better, flaxseed oil which you can use as a salad dressing (not recommended for cooking)

    3.) Evening primrose oil

    Basically, anything rich in Essential Fatty Acids.
