Foods found in a small grocery store in London...{2}?

When I was in London some time back, my mother and I made the rounds of various kinds of neighborhoods and shops . In one a couple of blocks from Edgeware Rd. we found a little shop that sold boxed tea and fruits, and small items like sacks of cookies, etc.... but on the counter were baskets full of delicious little meat pies made of chicken and beef ..... we were in a hurry so had no time to look much, but what other sort of little things to buy for lunch does one find in those little shops? If you would be so kind as to reminisce with me ....Thank you in advance.

Not just in London but there are bakeries which you can buy pre-packet sandwiches, sausage rolls, cornish pastie.

In Brick Lane, east London there is a lovely and traditional jewish bagel shop and they sell lovely bagel's.  You can choose whatever you want as the filling.

Greggs Bakery sell the best sausage rolls.

Do you mean packets of biscuits?

Round my part of North London it's mostly Polish food and beer -

'cos most of the customers are Polish! In London you can buy anything and everything from the four corners of the world - off Edgware Road you quite likely came across an arab owned shop. I think I'd find a bakers shop if I wanted to buy a pie for lunch though.

ooh the choices are endless. These shops often have a variety of freshly made sandwiches, soups, pies, pasties even pastas. There is one such shop in West London in place known by locals as Brackenbury Village. This quaint deli/coffee shop/ grocery store not only has has a wide selection of British lunch and dinner foods but also offers a great selection of cheeses. Perfect for every meal. But why stop at that, they also offer an extensive breakfast menu fit for a king.

There use to be a company called Walton Hassel & Port who had small grocery stores in London. Dont know if they still exist. Might be worth trying to locate them.
