  1. There's not much really different in the Australian diet compared to a North American one.  Some things that you might not be used to are beetroot (pickled sliced beets) on hamburgers, or a barbecue for Christmas.  Mangoes are also considerably more popular than I've seen in North America.

Of course, vegemite (yeast extract spread, very salty) is the traditional answer to this question, and though rarely seen on an Aussie dinner table, kangaroos and emus are both edible, as are sharks.  (I heard an unsubstantiated rumour that shark is the main fish used in Aussie takeaway fish & chip shops since it is so cheap.)

  2. I guess coz we are largely a coastal population that seafood heavily influences the diet.  Red meat is also seen as very Australian coz of the mentality of the bush.

Sweet things like the other answerer said: pavlova, lamingtons, Anzac biscuits, biscuits that go with cups of tea (because of British settlement).

Also different things from the bush like wattleseeds etc

  3. Vegemite. Because we love it.

  4. lamingtons, pavlova with fruit and cream I supose we love swee stuff and oh yes most of us love junk food. because we can

  5. Meat Pies. We love our pies.

    Vegemite!

    Lamington's.

  6. vegemite!!!!!

  7. even though it's now tehcniqually american owned... VEGIMITE!!! also meat pies n fish n chips n the great aussie bbq! n contrary to what alot of people think about us eating roo, it's not all that common... i'v had it before... very tasty, but i'd eat chicken or streak way more...

we're the only country that eats our nation emblem, that's something to be proud of

  8. Vegemite for sure . How about some lamb chops.

  9. kangaroo!(not keen on it myself, but you don't get more australian than that)bbq:snags & prawns.

  10. Vegemite/Lammingtons/Pavlova/ These are just things that were supposedly invented here in Australia, but I doubt that everyone eats them on a regular basis.

BBQ's in summer. Meat, fruit, vegies, probably much the same as you.
