I know a celery stick has "negative" calories, meaning it burns calories. Are there any other foods/fruits/vegetables that do this?

  1. That is a common myth, celery does not have negative calories, it has six calories per stalk and you don't burn off that many calories while eating a stalk of celery.

  2. the only other one i can think of is ice berg lettuce

  3. You are slightly mis-stating the definition of negative calorie foods. When your body spends more calories to digest  the food than the calories in the food, that food has 'net negative calories'.

Almost all the raw vegetables and fruits are negative calorie foods.

    What are negative calorie foods?

No foods have negative calories. The lowest calorie food is water at zero calories

Some foods have low calories, but it takes higher number of calories for the digestive system to break it down in to energy. The net impact is no calories to gain weight but may use up extra calories during digestion. The impact is net negative calories

The best example is celery. An 8" celery stalk has 6 calories, but it takes 12 calories to digest the stalk, so net impact is minus six calories

Negative calorie foods are eaten snacks to satiate hunger without adding net calories to your diet. Most of the raw fruits and vegetables are negative calorie foods. Popular negative calorie foods are as follows

    Apples

    Blueberries

    Broccoli

    Cantaloupe

    Cauliflower

    Cherries

    Cucumbers

    Grapefruit

    Green beans

    Mushrooms

    Oranges

    Raspberries

    Tangerines

    Tomato

    Watermelon

    Strawberries.

Cold water by definition is negative calorie food. It has no calories but it spends energy to warm the water to internal body temperature.

  4. the scientific community does not recognize so called "negative calorie" foods only dieting communities.  there are only very low calorie fruits and veggies.

regardless proteins have the highest thermogenic effect than does any fruit or vegetable.  however only those with normally functioning metabolism see an increase in the metabolic rate after eating, those that are severely overweight/obese do not.

  5. ice!!! Haha i eat ice all the time lol it keeps u from being hungry. carrots i believe, strawberries and watrmelon...those r the only one i can think off.
