Fooling technology is impossible for the players, says Alastair Cook
English batsman Alastair Cook has said that deceiving the technology is not possible for the cricketers, and if they would still attempt to do that, they would only be fooling themselves.
Cook was speaking in context of the incident when his teammate Ian Bell challenged the umpire’s decision who had declared him out after he was caught behind the wickets. Though later on the third umpire turned the decision in his favour, it still remained
a controversial referral as there was no conclusive evidence which could support or go against the verdict of the umpire on the field.
Cook was of the view that Bell should have avoided taking the risk of earning embarrassment, which was pretty much inevitable but the third umpire gave his verdict in his favour without any solid reason.
Sharing his views, Cook said, “If Belly had honestly thought he’d nicked it, I can’t see him standing because then you look quite foolish when you’ve nicked it and referred it. I don’t think any players are trying to bluff technology, you could end up with
egg on your face quite quickly.”
Despite of the fact that third umpire’s decision was rather controversial, Michael http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746 also ruled out the assumption that Bell was a cheat, rather he said, “I don’t think Ian Bell is a cheat at all. We thought there was
an inside edge. We appealed that, it was referred. Technology says with the result that Ian didn’t hit the ball. I certainly don’t think Ian is a cheat. I would find it very hard to believe anybody would refer a decision if they hit it. I think Ian wasn’t
sure and that’s why he referred it.”
The skipper for Australia’s test squad was of the view that despite of minor glitches, he believed in the accuracy of modern technology. He also accepted that having inconsistent areas in use of the new instruments was inevitable, and at times, it could
also lead to creating frustration. The captain also went on accepting that both of the teams had been facing a similar sort of issue, as if he were there on the pitch, he would like to either in or be out. He suggested the ICC to make a decision in this regard
so that there was a fair play for everyone who was dealing with the problem.
