Foot injury forces WR Taylor Price out of Jacksonville Jaguars’ offseason workout-NFL News
The Jacksonville Jaguars have received a serious blow to their efforts of consolidating squad strength at the wide receivers’ position as their new signee, Taylor Price, is reported to miss the entire offseason activity due to a foot injury.
Jaguars’ coach, Mike Mularkey, has confirmed the player’s injury to be a stress fracture in the left foot and recovery and rehab from it will cost him the remaining part of the offseason.
It is a rather unfortunate development for the management, who has focused the wide receiver position more seriously this year after finishing the past season on a poorest note.
Mike Thomas, who led all wide-outs for Jaguars in the 2011 National Football League (NFL) season, ended up with only 44 receptions for 415 yards at the bottom of the league’s rating graph.
To avoid the possibility of repetition of the performance in future, Jaguars signed former Dallas Cowboys’ wide receiver, Laurent Robinson, and most recently former Baltimore Ravens’ WR, Lee Evans.
Price was the latest of all signings. He was picked up as a third round pick by the New England Patriots in 2010. However, he has remained on and off the squad and his record consists of only five receptions.
He was signed by Jaguars in December 2011 off the waivers and was due to join the squad in the offseason voluntary workout.
Due to the setback of the foot injury, he is now expected back in the preseason, probably from the training camp of the team.
The 2012 NFL season will mark the beginning of a new era for Jaguars, with new owner, Shahid Khan, and head coach, Mike Mularkey.
Jaguars had performed rather poorly in the past season, which forced former owner, Wayne Weaver, to part ways with his head coach, Del Rio, and introduce some other changes in the team.
He, however, sold his franchise to Pakistan-born American businessman, Shahid Khan, in a $760 million deal. The franchise’s general manager, Gene Smith, and assistant coach, Mel Tucker, are only significant holdovers from the era of former owner.
The team has also introduced some changes in the squad and Taylor Prices is one of the new arrivals in Jacksonville.
