This is a long held belief of mine. When the UK joined the EC which later became Europe it was obvious that the member countries would not duplicate industries. The UK would be the bankers, the French,farmers, Spanish & Portugese, fishermen and the German & Italians, engineers.

So far, the Common Agricultural Policy has propped up the French economy,. The UK fishing fleet has been decimated along with it`s manufacturing capacity. Every refrigerator and washing machine is Italian and heavy engineering is dominated by the Germans. Couple this with over £1million going to the ex soviet bloc countries in benefits. We are stuffed.

This is all getting out of hand - mind you, before these foot and mouth outbreaks - we had a suspected case of Blue tongue on our farm - we had a cow peeing blood and this is one of blue tongues symptoms and our vet was rightfully worried.  We had to wait for a government vet, who wanted to blood test all our cows - thats nearly 1,000!!!! - then the cheif vet came out and said it was a total waste of time - it was just a kidney infection, they took blood which proved this!!!

Foot and mouth has devastated beef farmers and in a sector that is seeing 4 farms per week close, we can ill-afford it.  Lukily, we are a dairy farm and can cope (just) however, this latest milk scandal is another thing!!
