Foot pain from new running shoes?

I just recently joined cross country, and i bought these new shoes (soucony progrid omni 7 moderate) i didnt know much about running shoes and the lady at the running store just kinda watched me walk and run and gave suggestions and i chose those shoes. She said somethin about my feet "rolling a bit" when I walk and these shoes i bought she said had some kinda thing on it to correct my feet or something? I wore them for a couple of hours today, there's like a bump i can feel in the shoe on like the inner side, i guess that's the thing that keep my feet from rolling in?.....but its feels kinda weird. And from those couple of hours i was wearing them they didnt seem that comfortable..felt like i was gettin a little bit of foot pain from them...is that normal? like is it just cuz my feet arent used to them yet? i really need to know if i need better ones cuz these were expensive...like $100 and i dont want money wasted..and if they get dirty i doubt they'll let me return them

  1. I think the lady at the store was accusing you of being flat-footed. The shoes you are wearing offer you extra stability to prevent your foot from overpronating (rolling in). If you're not comfortable in them, you obviously aren't as flat footed as she made you out to be.

  2. I have the same problem and my foot are quite flat-footed too (meaning they roll-in).

When i first got shoes to improve my arch, i though exactly the same thing about the bump....it felt so weird, but don't worry, you quickly get used to it.

You should probably go see a podiatrist (foot doctor) as they will tell you what to do with your shoes and you might need authodics to help correct you arch. If your feet are as flat footed as mine were, if you don't get authodics, you will begin getting servere knee and sometimes back pain.

Check out this site, a little ways down the page is some info about flat feet:

One of the problems that might be occuring that results in your foot pain is not stretching that part of the foot. I used to never stretch there and one day i began getting foot pain. Do stretch like the one on the below website and lean against the wall. This stretch is usually used as a calf and hamstring stretch but also stretches the arch of the foot. Now that i stretch like this i never get arch pain anymore:

Here is a site that tells you how your foot should be fitting and relates it to different sports. So you can check out your shoes to see if they are fitting correctly:

Hope your feet feel better soon. Please take my advice and go to a podiatrist- it will really be worth it, i know from LOTS of painful experience. Good luck!
