Footbal: Fulham look for new Coach, Ottmar Hitzfeld and Bob Bradley doubtful
Fulham are in need of a new coach. Sven Goran and Ajax's coach Martin Jol are handling the short listing for the time being.
Fulham is the oldest professional football club in London. The club has played twenty four seasons in the English top division. Fulham have never won a major honour but have reached the finals twice.
In 1975 they reached the FA Cup final as a Second Division team in which they lost to West Ham United and after that they have never reached the finals. They actually reached the European League Final this year but sadly they lost to Altetico Madrid.
This club has produced many great players in history which include George Cohen, Rodney March, Bobby Robson, Alan Mullery and Johnny Haynes.
It has been two weeks since Roy Hodgson called it quits from the team after serving with them for a period of two and a half years and now the club is looking for a new replacement before the team starts its training camp in Sweeden.
The main two contenders for the job and the favourites for the job would definitely be either Ottmar Hitzfeld, the coach from Switzerland, or, it would be the American Bob Bradley but right now both seem unlikely to take up the position as Fulham’s new coach.
Hitzfeld, who used to be Bayern Munich coach, has taken himself out of the running and the United States Soccer Federation has said that they are thinking of extending Bradely’s contract. So the chance for these two to become Fulham’s next coach seems a bit on the shallow side of the pool.
The USSF Official spokesman said that Bradley is still under contract with the US Soccer team until the end of this year and talks are still going on for him.
Sven-Göran Eriksson is a likely candidate for the post of Fulham’s next manager but his wages could be a major factor. As the owner of Fulham’s team, Mohammed Al Fayed, has set a limit of £1million, which Errikson, may not accept.
Eriksoson has revealed that he is considering returning to his former post as the coach of the Ivory Coast team as he has received a very lucrative offer from them. This is the same team he coached for the World Cup.
Erkisson commented that he guessed that the Ivory Coast was very pleased with him and he could stay on with them but only if he wants to himself. It will only be four years till he gets to see the next World Cup Final.
Eriksson has told the media that he will make a decision in a week or so. He continued to say that he needs to do it soon as the friendlies and the qualifications for the Africa Cup are around the corner.
Jol was actually sacked from Tottenham in 2007 and now he may relish a chance to manage a team in the Premier League again. But his leaving Ajax or, playing the Champions League football in the coming year still seems unclear.
As the pre season campaign draws closer for Fulham, the team is definitely looking for a new manager as soon as possible.
The midfielder Simon Davies from the Fulham team said that it was frustrating not having things in place. In the last pre season campaign against Brentford they won 5-0 but now as they don’t have a coach it looks a bit grim.
He went on by saying that he did not know what was going to happen but the club has announced that they will have someone no later than the start of next week.
