Football, Is it worth the money any more?

The average england international footballer has a salary of around 3 million pounds, (so about 51 million for the whole team) and the england team haven't won any major tournament in 10 years. (http://www.england-afc.co.uk/History/Honours)

The average olympic athlete has a salary of 25 thousand, and they have earned the country 17 Gold medals (so far) in this years games.

So... given we could have over 2,000 athletes for the same cost as the england football team... is football worth the money and praise heaped on it anymore?

  1. its the fan fault for paying high prices for tickets

  2. no its not worth the money

  3. Yes

  4. no why pay for sky and setanta , the EU idea was to make it cheaper , now we pay twice

  5. No, not a single sport has athletes that are worth being paid the ridiculous amount they get.  Why not give them a reasonable salary, and put the rest towards researching diseases.  And the risks they go through for their profession does not justify it, because so many other professions are much more dangerous, and they get paid severely less.

  6. this isn't tax payer money your talking about... it is sponsorships, ticket sales, concession sales and tv ads that pay for sports.

  7. Greed would spoil athletics too if enough people were interested in it.  Don't think the likes of Sky miss an opportunity to take something they don't own and restrict us from seeing it with the help of grubby little politicians who then get a backhander.

The fact is...the Olympics is a minority sports festival.
