Football: Arsenal may lose Captain Cesc Fabregas
Now that the FIFA World Cup is finally over, attention of the football world will solely be focused on European football. The transfer window is still open and rumours of different players linked to various clubs will once again take centre stage.
Arsenal Captain, Cesc Fabregas, who was part of the Spanish team that won the World Cup, has been strongly linked with a move to the Spanish champions Barcelona. Prior to the World Cup it looked as if the move was all but certain. But now comments from all concerned suggest that Fabregas may yet stay at Emirates for at least another season.
Fabregas was questioned about whether he is planning to move or not. He said that he would not like to comment on it and also did not comment on committing his future to the Gunners.
The midfielder said that the topic should be left alone for the moment and the more we talk about it the more complicated it would get. He added that for now the matter should be put to rest and everyone will get to know when the time is right.
After winning the World Cup final, Carlos Puyol and Gerrard Pique forced a Barcelona jersey on Fabregas and it did make a number of headlines. Cesc said that it was just part of the celebrations and since the Spanish team has such a strong Barca contingency he joined in to celebrate with the Barcelona players, and by no means was that a signal that he is heading to Camp Nou.
Fabregas went on to say that there are number of things that happen in a mass celebration like that. He added that when a team is celebrating such a huge moment one really does not know what is exactly going on, so minor things like that should not be taken into account. He said that Liverpool keeper, Pepe, took him to the centre of the stage and he did not really know what was going to happen. Fabregas said he thought they were handing him a flag but it turned out to be the Barcelona jersey. He insisted that still things like that should not be taken so seriously. His father Francesc Fabregas said that his son loves his club Arsenal and would not intentionally do anything to disrespect them.
Regardless of that incident Fabregas still remains a hot target for Barcelona. He has been at Arsenal since he was a 17 year old. He moved there from the Barcelona youth academy. Arsenal Manager Arsene Wenger who is known to scout and harness young talent knew that he had something special in his ranks.
As soon as Fabregas scored his first goal for Arsenal in the Premier League his arrival was noticed by one and all. He was 17 years old at that time and he latched on to a long ball in the opposition box, controlled the ball with his first touch, his second touch allowed him to move it to his right foot ,and, his third touch saw the ball into the back of the net. Fabregas had arrived and since then he has grown as a player at Arsenal. After Henry and Viera left, Arsenal were in need of a young man to stand up and be counted, the Spaniard provided the Gunners with exactly that.
Arsenal has been known as a team who play beautiful football. A lack of trophies though is the cause of concern and that was the reason Henry and Viera left. But 6 seasons without silverware has meant that more players may be on their way out. Fabregas understandably is also on the same list, but rest assured Arsenal will be doing all they can to hold on to one of their most potent assets.
