Football Association acting Chairman stepped down following England’s humiliating defeat
Football Association (FA) acting Chairman Roger Burden has decided to step down after England’s humiliation at World Cup 2018 bidding ceremony on December 02, 2010 at Zurich, Switzerland. Burden has withdrawn his candidacy for the permanent Chairmanship
of Football Association saying that ‘I am not prepared to work with people I don’t have trust.’ England was overseen by Russia and the latter took the opportunity to host the World Cup 2018. Russia won the voting followed by a marginal victory over
England for 14 votes to 2 only. England was eliminated in the first round with only two votes.
Roger Burden planned to step down after a harsh attack on world governing body (FIFA). He wants ‘nothing to do with FIFA’. Senior English officials claimed acrimonious breakdown in the relations with FIFA. The loss was also echoed by Andy Anson,
Chief Executive England 2018 bid, whereby he said that England is not likely to host any world cup in the near future until the drastic changes in the FIFA processes are observed. There still was a lack of trust and that asserted into unexpected knockout in
the very first stage of voting. This has depicted as numerous people broke their promises to support England at the World Cup 2018 bid.
Humiliated and ashamed English officials are now attacking world governing body for their incompetence. This, surely, is a deadly backlash of England’s defeat after having so much powerful campaigners like David Beckham, England’s Prime Minister David Cameron
and Prince William. Panorama investigation did the damage for England and what could be the nation’s glory had turned into an hour of shame. The return of bid team on Friday was quite nursed with astonishing attacks on FIFA’s decisions; betrayal over the decision
made in the favour of Qatar as England felt their bid is more compatible and has more technical and human strength to make it happen.
