Football: Barcelona Coach Guardiola and Vilanova extend contracts, Dutch regret final misses
It has been confirmed by an official website that Barcelona’s Coach Pep Guardiola has signed an extension in his contract that will keep Guardiola with the club till June 2011.
Sandro Rosell has been confirmed as Barcelona’s President and only fourteen days after that Guardiola met with him and the contract was signed.
Tito Vilanova the Assistant Coach has also extended his contract with Barca, just as Guardiola has, and, both have started working with the team again at Camp Nou.
The new contract that has been signed by both Vilanova and Guardilo contracts them for the next four seasons and this is the third year that both of them are heading up the Barca team.
Guardiola is setting records at Camp Nou. During his tenure he has led the team to an astonishingly high number of seven titles in a period of only two seasons. These titles include a Champions League trophy, two Liga titles, a club World Cup Championship, both the European and Spanish Super cups, and a Copa Del Rey Crown.
In other news Arjen Robben, who is the Nehterlands winger, is being talked about as he missed a lot of great opportunities, which would have made his team and, his country the victors of the Football World Cup.
One miss that is most talked about, is the one where it was just Robben, and, the Spanish goalkeeper-captain, Iker Casillas. He got a pass from Wesley Sneijder, and had only the goalie in front of him. Robben had an opportunity to take the title and the trophy and to have his name written down in history but he missed it. His shot deflected off the leg of Casillas and he only got a corner and not a goal.
Experts say that it was the best chance in the whole game for the Netherlands to score.
Later on in the match, Andres Iniesta saved the World Cup final from finishing in penalties, when he scored a goal for the Spanish side with only five minutes of extra time remaining.
It is a very sad fact that the Netherlands reached their third World Cup final and lost their third World Cup final. They came to the field hoping to take the trophy home and for the third time have seen their opponents take the trophy away from them. The Netherlands went to the World Cup finals before in 1974 and then in the next World Cup in 1978 but did not come out the other end of the tunnel as victors.
Robben commented on the matter by saying that it hurts a lot to miss such a chance.
Bert Van Marwijk, who was actually knighted for playing a role in taking the Netherlands to the South Africa Finals, is also hurting over his teams missed chances in the final. He commented on the matter by saying that all he can think about is how they were so close and could have won.
