Football Breaking News: Sir Alex Ferguson sets time on Owen Hargreaves’ return
Manchester United’s manager, Sir Alex Ferguson has revealed a possible date of comeback for the midfielder, Owen Hargreaves. For last two years, the former Bayern Munich star has managed only a minute of first team action since undergoing painful operations
on both of his knees. He doesn’t seem to have fully recovered from his tendinitis problem.
Hargreaves was forced to miss the pre-season campaign with Red Devils as he was sent to see Dr. Richard Steadman in America. While training for the pre-season, he again felt some discomfort, which led to his cautious visit to Dr. Steadman. Having joined
Manchester United back in 2007, the player has only made 38 appearances. Last week, however, a statement from Hargreaves’ doctor stated that the player has been doing fine now and would be playing within no time.
Hargreaves has finally returned to training at Carrington, which has brought a smile on the manager’s face. "Owen Hargreaves has come back training and has looked very good. After being out for so long, we'll obviously have to monitor him and see how he's
going to progress in the next few weeks. But it's good to see him back. Because he's been out for so long you have to see whether there's going to be a relapse. That's the first thing on our mind at the moment but having watched him in training, yesterday,
if he continues that way he's going to give me another selection problem, no question about that", said Ferguson.
Hargreaves was phenomenal in his first season with the Red Devils, where he was part of the squad which won the UEFA Champions league as well as the Premier league title. However, in September 2008, the player suffered from this prolonged injury which led
to him missing almost two seasons.
Ferguson has also confirmed the injury update on Michael Carrick, after having an injection on his Achilles injury a few weeks ago. The manager said that Carrick has started training last week and he had to take that injection to calm the Achilles. Ferguson
explained that there was nothing worrisome about Carrick’s injury.
Sir Alex Ferguson also hinted towards a possible return for Hargreaves before this year ends. Manchester United fans would be happy to have such a player back among the ranks. Hargreaves is one of the truly talented players of his generation and his midfield
role was pivotal for United’s historic double in the 08/09 season.
