Football: Capello hopeful to get England back to normal
After being kicked out of the World Cup, Germany and the English squad are ready to keep their focus towards upcoming tournaments. England’s performance in World Cup 2010 in South Africa was one of the worst performances ever made. Their poor performance in the World Cup dragged them down to the 13th spot in the FIFA World Cup ranking. Ranking 13 out of 32 is not so bad for an average national football team but in the case of England it is the worst position they have ever achieved. It is even lower than England’s previous worst placement which was 11th in the 1955 World Cup.
In South Africa, England was eliminated by Germany with one of the heaviest defeats, by 4 goals to 1. The defeat led to the foundation of criticism over the English team, their domestic football structure and as well as Coach Fabio Capello.
On one hand, FIFA President Sepp Blatter criticized the domestic structure of the English football. On the other hand, Phillip Lahm of Germany thoroughly criticized the approach of the English players towards the game and strategy. Lahm pointed out the vulnerable defence was the key for them to counter attack and out class England. Moreover, Thomas Muller of Germany highlighted England’s impatient attitude and how it helped the Germans into the quarter finals of the World Cup. Muller added that the England national team showed lack of confidence in one another and looked under pressure.
FIFA President Sepp Blatter, elaborated his point and expressed that the English domestic football league is accommodating more foreign players and a business point of view, which is not suitable for the English players to polish their skills. The country of England is known as the mother of football and it will be better for the English football association to consider issues by taking quick notice as there football reputation is on stake.
Talking about the English performance in the World Cup, one cannot ignore England’s Coach Fabio Capello. The 64 year old Italian, Coach Fabio Capello, can feel the heat and pressure of all the criticism and can play a vital role in improving the English team. Capello is also being criticized due to England’s poor performance but England’s football Association has decided to work with Capello till the end of his contract with the association. Capello’s contract will end in 2012. He is confident about leading the English squad and shows his faith in the English side. Capello has planned to conduct a meeting to discuss the current circumstances on July 15.
England has to concentrate on their weaknesses and divert all their attention towards the Euro Cup in 2012. Fans are eager to see them make a comeback. Despite their defeat against the Germans in the World Cup, England has still managed to improve its overall ranking in football from 8th to 7th place. The new ranking is a sign of hope for them and they can fight back for a better position. The latest ranking by FIFA has been released on Wednesday, July 14, with Spain topping the list as the new World Champions.
