Football Gossip: Antonio Cassano to replace Ronaldinho at AC Milan
If the reports coming out of Italy are to be believed, AC Milan are looking to bring in UC Sampdoria outcast Antonio Cassano to replace legendary yet out-of-shape Ronaldinho.
Ronaldinho was a constant pick under Leonardo last season at San Siro as he produced some of his best form in Rossoneri jersey. The playmaker forward scored an impressive 15 goals while assisting in 17 others as Rossoneri finished in the Serie A top four.
However, with the appointment of Massimiliano Allegri in the wake of Leonardo’s departure, Ronnie has gone down in the pecking order as Allegri clearly doesn’t appreciate Ronnie's lack of work ethic. To make matters worse, the Samba star was seen partying
late into the night in Milanese night clubs.
Latest reports indicate that AC Milan are unwilling to pay 7.5 million Euros annual wages to a player who doesn’t even feature in the starting eleven and Ronnie's reluctance to take a pay-cut has made matters worse.
As so happened, Antonio Cassano’s feud with club president Riccardo Garrone has left the club asking for the player’s contract to be rescinded. While Il Talentino de Bari has apologized to the Sampdoria president, Garrone has publicly declared that the player
will not feature for Blucerchiati again. Cassano is no short of admirers as Juventus and Inter Milan both have been admirers for long. However, the player’s recent antics seem to have dwindled the interest as none of the two clubs have shown intent to sign
the troubled star.
AC Milan will get like-for-like player in case they acquire Antonio Cassano. With Cassano being younger and performing on consistent basis, Rossoneri will be able to strengthen their squad many folds. Also, with Pippo Inzgahi’s season cut short by an injury
and Alexandre Pato frequently filling up numbers on the treatment tables, AC Milan have only two forwards for their 4-3-1-2 formation; Robinho and Zlatan Ibrahimovic.
Cassano’s signing will not only add depth to the attack, a player of his calibre will bring the quality required to succeed at the top level continental football. However, the news remains a speculation for now as Rossoneri faithful wait in anticipation
for any move to materialise.
